Producing the RF to ID terms or DE terms crossmap.
- ID terms crossmap. On the TFGUI window, select Terms > XMAP RF to ID terms The crossmap will appear as a separate window.
- DE terms crossmap. On the TFGUI window, select Terms > XMAP RF to DE terms The crossmap will appear as a separate window.
- Adjust the size of the circles by using the annotate menu on the crossmap figure. Selecting *2 will double the size of the circles, selecting /2 will have the size of the circles.
Below shows two crossmaps, top map is an ID terms crossmap, below that is a DE terms crossmap. Both maps are from the mad_cow example. The list below describes the elements of the research front to these crossmaps as numbered in the figures below:
- Plot area The plot shows a matrix of circles. Given research front (RF) at position i on the y axis, and term j on the x position. The circle at position (i,j) on the map is proportional to the number of papers in RF i that are associated with term j. Large concentrations of circles indicate a group of research fronts associated with a group of terms, although there is typically a lot of overlap of these associations.
- Research front dendrogram The dendrogram and horizontal placement of research fronts is identical to the research fronts in the timeline.
- Research front labels Same placement as the reserarch fronts in the timeline.
- Term coocurrence dendrogram This is the dendrogram from term cooccurrence clustering. General groups of related terms can be discerned as separate subtrees of the dendrogram.
- Term labels The terms are printed as they are given in the WOS file.
- crosshairs Clicking in the plot area will cause a horizonal line and vertical line to appear. These crosshairs can be used to find the labels associated with specific circles of interest on the map.
- annotate menu This menu contains annotation tools for resizing circles, adjusting plot margins for most readable labels, and for zooming to interesting parts of the crossmap.
- webpage menu This control can be used to generate a webpage containing the crossmap.
